Course Objectives:
The aim of this course is for students to experience at first hand the application of the theoretical concept of organic solidarity to the operation of a non-governmental organization (NGO), and learn how a concerned individual or a group of individuals translates an idea for addressing a social problem into a formal organization with clearly defined goals, resources, and a plan of action, and sustains itself over time, meeting several opportunities and challenges on the way.
Course Content:

The course combines theoretically informed analyses of group solidarity in pursuit of the common good with students’ experience of voluntary work for an NGO. Under the guidance and supervision of the instructor the students intern with an NGO, familiarize themselves with that organization’s mission, structure, projects,  membership- and staff profile, and observe its daily operations and interactions, using the methodology of participant observation.

Course Methodology:
1: Lecture, 2: Question-Answer, 3: Discussion, 9: Simulation, 12: Case Study
