Sociology is a branch of science that systematically and scientifically examines the path followed by society and the movements of society. At some points, it can also be defined as "science of society". The Department of Sociology carries out various and different researches on social relations, daily interactions and the culture of life in social style. Sociology gathers information on social tendency, acceptance and change by using critical forms of analysis as well as various experimental research methods. The subject matter of the department ranges from the macro level of social structure and system interaction systems and tools to the individual micro sociological level. The Department of Sociology aims to train competent and at the same time professional social scientists who are equipped with the ability to criticise, objectively evaluate and understand society, have a national vision and career related to social and social trends and phenomena, and have the ability to apply their knowledge in all kinds of environments, useful to society, useful and useful at national and international level.

In order to be a student of the Department of Sociology affiliated to the Faculty of Science and Letters, you must make a preference with the equal weight score of YKS (Higher Education Institutions Exam).

Graduates of the Department of Sociology can easily work in many community-based positions.  As a result of the education and experience gained, it becomes possible to work in various duties and positions. Our graduates have the opportunity to work in many important and different fields such as insurance companies, writing, non-governmental organisations, research centres, advertising, banking and finance, journalism and media. In addition, sociology graduates who prefer an academic career are also the majority. As can be seen, sociology is a discipline with many sub-branches. At this point, graduates of the Department of Sociology have job opportunities in different positions in state institutions and large enterprises, companies, institutions and organisations.

Psychology and Sociology are two different academic disciplines that have different research topics, approaches and theories, but can approach each other in some topics and carry out joint studies.

Sociologist is a social scientist who researches social phenomena, processes, structures and institutions. They process the data obtained by using qualitative and quantitative research techniques depending on the field of research, their own approach and research problematic, and present it to the society by drawing conclusions from this data.

Sociology is certainly one of the most important professions that is important today and will become even more popular in the future. As the structure of post-modern society is becoming more and more complex, sociology will emerge as one of the fundamental social sciences for understanding this society. This process has already begun and is making itself felt with increasing intensity every day.

Sociology undergraduate programme is a four-year programme.

Our programme does not have a compulsory internship. However, our department helps students who want to do voluntary internships. Possible institutions where sociology students can do internship are: non-governmental organisations, research institutions, state and public institutions, coordination units of commercial institutions.

Since sociology is a major social science, its undergraduate education requires four years of study.

Since social research can be both quantitative and qualitative, it is the basic standard to teach both methods in Sociology education.

A graduate of Sociology cannot be a psychologist.

Graduates of the Department of Sociology cannot be a school counsellor.

Although there is no appointment like teachers or doctors for graduates of the Department of Sociology, the state and various public institutions and organisations can make vacancies in sociologist positions when they deem necessary.

Sociology graduates cannot do psychological counselling and guidance.

Since it is a social science major, Sociology education has to provide the student with the necessary theoretical and methodological background, so the education has a rich structure in terms of its content. However, difficulty and easiness are qualities that vary according to many other criteria. If the student likes the field of study, the student will/is able to continue their education in a contented and enjoyable way.

Anyone who is curious about social phenomena, dynamics, structures and processes is a suitable candidate to study Sociology. In this context, fulfilling one's own academic curiosity within a very rich set of subjects has a very enriching effect on the person. All graduates say that their world view has changed compared to the time they started their education.
