Course Objectives: 
To study the main concepts, theories and topics of the sociology of education; to discuss the contemporary problems regarding education along the lines of these concepts, theories and topics.
Course Content: 

Theoretical Perspectives on Education and Society; Schools as Social Organizations; Social-Structural Characteristics of the School; Social Functions of Education; School Actors and the Socialization Function of the School: Transmission of Roles, Norms, and Values; Authority Patterns in Schools; Equalities/Inequalities in Educational Opportunity; Role of Schools in the Social Reproduction of Socio-Economic Inequalities; Family Life and Schools; Gender Inequalities in Education; Educational Movements and Reform.
