*FEDEK, FEF programs have been recognized by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) as national quality assurance institutions.

Our undergraduate degree program has FEDEK accreditation valid between 2019-2024.

 

PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM TEACHING OBJECTIVES

 

TO1: Has a command of the fundamental concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology.

TO2: Can apply basic research methods in psychology, establish a research design, collect data, conduct data analysis, and interpret data, whether collected personally or applied to existing data.

TO3: Utilizes analytical, critical, systematic, and creative thinking and expression skills in a productive and forward-thinking manner.

TO4: Applies the knowledge and theories of psychology to individual, social, cultural, and institutional issues; approaches and interprets events and problems with an understanding of psychology as a science; embraces the values of psychology, values empirical evidence, and adheres to professional and research ethical principles.

TO5: Possesses competence that ensures competitiveness in the field, insight into one's own and others' behavior and mental processes, social sensitivity, and a sense of social responsibility and ethics; can engage in teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration and is open to self-improvement.

TO6: Demonstrates effective communication and presentation skills, expresses thoughts clearly and coherently, and can efficiently use current computer and software tools.

 

PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PROGRAM OUTCOMES)

 

PO 1. Master the basic concepts, theoretical perspectives and historical development of psychology as a branch of science.

PO 2. Have knowledge about the subfields of psychology and the methods and applications of these fields.

PO 3. Can establish the link between psychological theories and the empirical foundations of these theories.

PO 4. Compare the similarities and differences of other disciplines other than psychology with psychology, see their potential contribution to psychology, and are aware of the importance of interdisciplinary work.

PO 5. Understands the basic features of psychological science regarding research and research ethics principles.

PO 6. Recognizes basic research methods in psychology, can create a research design, collect data, and has data analysis and data interpretation skills by using current information technologies.

PO 7. Can plan and conduct research studies using appropriate research, methods, knowledge and skills to answer questions in the field of psychology and/or work with existing data.

PO 8. Can access information, use information effectively, and for this purpose can scan interdisciplinary resources and use databases and other information sources.

PO 9. Can make skeptical inquiry and use scientific approach in predicting theory, research methods and applications.

PO 10. Can think analytically, critically and creatively and express his thoughts; is logical and fluent in the expression of thoughts and ideas.

PO 11. Aware of the potential application areas of the findings obtained from the basic research areas of psychology.

FEDEK PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM SPECIFIC CRITERIA

  1. Ability to define fundamental concepts and terms of psychology; possession of relevant theoretical knowledge and different approaches and perspectives.

  2. Understanding the positioning of psychology as a scientific discipline, how it historically addresses behavioral and mental processes, and the methods used for examination.

  3. Knowledge of the general history of psychology and recognition of other fields related to psychology.

  4. Ability to establish connections between the topics of psychology and other scientific fields.

  5. Familiarity with the prominent emphases of basic theoretical approaches (behavioral, biological, cognitive, evolutionary, humanistic, psychodynamic, and socio-cultural).

  6. Introduction to application areas related to the field, forming the basis for specialization training.

  7. Understanding the basic principles of psychological assessment.

  8. Possession of basic knowledge about commonly used measurement tools and basic interview skills for conducting applications in different branches of psychology.

  9. Proficiency in designing research patterns, collecting, interpreting, transforming data into reports, and discussing in psychological research.

  10. Possession of skills and experience in scientific thinking, learning, critical thinking, and judgment.

  11. Knowledge of ethical principles and values of psychology, ethical practices, and forms of scientific inquiry.

YEDITEPE UNIVERSITY PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT PROGRAM SPECIFIC CRITERIA

  1. Establishment of a course program introducing, examining, and comparing current theories with the fundamental theories of psychology.

  2. Coverage of the fundamental subfields of psychology through opened courses.

  3. Presence of at least one course in the four-year undergraduate program covering the history of different theories of psychology.

  4. Inclusion of courses allowing comparison of psychology with other sciences in the program.

  5. Presence of courses in the four-year undergraduate program covering the scientific foundation of psychology, including statistics, research methods, measurement, and evaluation.

  6. Presence of courses in the four-year undergraduate program that students can apply to build the scientific foundation of psychology.

  7. Inclusion of a course in the four-year undergraduate program that supports students in strengthening their English language skills, reading and writing scientific sources in the field, and developing critical thinking.

  8. Inclusion of at least one course in the four-year undergraduate program covering the ethics of application and research in psychology.

  9. Existence of a course program that enables students to think critically.

  10. Offering elective courses within or outside the department to students each semester.

  11. Inclusion of a course program content that provides students with the opportunity to learn a second foreign language.

  12. Provision of the opportunity for students meeting program conditions within the framework of the ERASMUS exchange program to attend courses in another department for at least one semester.
