What does a graduate of the Department of Psychology do?

Those who complete a four-year undergraduate programme in psychology graduate with the title of "Psychologist". Graduates of the Department of Psychology have a wide range of job opportunities, especially in public and private organisations. Students who graduate from our department with the title of "Psychologist" can find the opportunity to specialise in different subfields of Psychology such as Developmental, Clinical, Social, Experimental, Forensic and Industrial Psychology if they complete their master's (and doctoral) education. For example, graduates who want to specialise in Clinical Psychology can apply to Clinical Psychology MA programmes and get a specialisation degree in this field. The working field of psychologists is defined according to their areas of expertise. If they would like to pursue an academic career, they can also be employed in universities and institutes.

What are the job opportunities for psychology graduates?

Graduates of the psychology department can work as teachers if they receive pedagogical formation training. In addition, they can be employed by various ministries such as the Ministry of Health, the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of National Education, and the Ministry of National Defence. Our students can also find many working areas in the private sector. Accordingly, they can find job opportunities in many fields of work such as consultancy companies, public relations, advertising, marketing, human resources departments within companies, social services and non-governmental organisations, preschool education institutions, and private education institutions.

Is the KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Exam) required for graduates of the Psychology department?

Psychologists can work in the public or private sector. Psychologists who want to work in public institutions are appointed by the KPSS exam.

Can psychology graduates open a counselling centre?

People who have an MA in Clinical Psychology and have received the title of "Clinical Psychologist" and people who have completed postgraduate education in "Family Counselling" or have completed a certificate programme under accepted conditions have the right to open a counselling centre / family counselling centre. Is a psychologist a doctor?

Psychiatrists are graduates of the Faculty of Medicine, therefore they graduate as medical doctors (MDs). Psychologists, on the other hand, graduate from the Departments of Psychology of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences with the title 'psychologist', hence they are not doctors. However,  psychologists who have completed their doctorate studies can receive a Ph.D. degree.

Is the Department of Psychology social or science-oriented? In which courses must they be successful to become a student of Psychology?

The Department of Psychology accepts students with equal-weight score types. Therefore, candidates must be successful in both social and science-oriented courses.  It is very important that they are successful in their Science, Turkish Language, Mathematics, and Social Studies courses at the TYT (Core Proficiency Test) stage. In the AYT (Advanced Proficiency Test), they will be responsible for Turkish Language, Mathematics, History, and Geography 1 courses.

I want to be a psychologist, which department should I choose?

In order to become a psychologist, it is necessary to study at the Departments of Psychology affiliated to the Faculties of Arts and Sciences. People who have graduated with a BA degree from Psychology undergraduate programmes approved by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and Psychology undergraduate programmes abroad, whose diploma equivalence is accepted by YÖK, have the right to use the title of psychologist in Turkey.

Is there an English Preparatory School requirement in the Department of Psychology?

The language of instruction in our university and department is English. English preparatory school is compulsory, but students who are successful in the English proficiency exam organised by the Preparatory School of Yeditepe University will be able to proceed directly to the first year of the undergraduate programme. Is there a Mathematics course in the Department of Psychology?

In which year of the undergraduate programme of the Department of Psychology does the internship start?

There is no compulsory internship course in the Department of Psychology. Our department supports voluntary internships starting from the 3rd year.
