About Department

Anthropology is a branch of social science that seeks to attain a holistic understanding of human life. It analyzes the diversity of human experiences and how different cultures shape these experiences. Within this framework, it seeks answers to fundamental questions such as, "How do we explain cultural diversity among societies?", "What is the relationship between the individual and society?", and "How do cultural practices, norms, and values change and transform over time in human communities?" Anthropologists examine historical and contemporary interactions and communications of both individuals and communities while addressing these broader questions.

Ethnographic research is the core methodology anthropologists use which distinguishes anthropology from other social science disciplines. Through ethnography , anthropologists analyze social, cultural, and political phenomena  at both micro and macro scales such as formations and functioning of ethnic and religious groups, kinship relations, ecological changes, and global economic systems including capitalism and neoliberalism as well as their local impacts across the world.

Yeditepe University is Turkey's first and only foundation university to offer undergraduate and graduate-level anthropology education in English. Additionally, it hosts the only Anthropology undergraduate program accredited by FEDEK. Established in 1996, the department aims to train competent anthropologists with ethnographic research skills, deep theoretical knowledge, critical perspective, and ethical research practice. The Anthropology Department at Yeditepe University continues to play a significant role in the establishment and institutionalization of anthropology as a credible and recognized social science discipline in Turkey.

Mathematics is an intellectual field built upon consistent, non-contradictory axioms, where deductions are made through logic, forming a domain with absolute reality. In cases where axioms and findings align with physical reality, we witness the application of mathematics to social and other scientific fields, namely applied mathematics. In this regard, mathematics has been the foundation and indispensable tool for much of modern science and technology. Even in professions not explicitly labeled as mathematicians, there are occupations that require a significant level of mathematical knowledge and expertise. Finance theorists, economists, engineers, physicists, some biologists, chemists, pharmacists, and others fall into this category.

The Mathematics undergraduate program aims to provide students with a strong mathematical foundation and prepare those who are willing for doctoral education, focusing on algebra, geometry, and analysis. It is ideal for talented students who love mathematics to direct their elective courses towards mathematics and pursue a doctoral program, thus actively participating in research and educational activities at the university. Job opportunities in this field are more abundant in our country, where there are new and young universities.

Our department encourages and supports students to complete one or two semesters of their education abroad through Erasmus and other Student Exchange Programs. Foreign students also receive education in our department through exchange programs.

Finding a job with an undergraduate degree in mathematics often requires education in some areas of applied mathematics and computer science. Students interested in fields such as statistics, computer science, business, economics, decision-making, management sciences, actuarial science, software, and network engineering can participate in double major or minor programs or take elective courses from relevant departments. Obtaining a bachelor's degree in mathematics from one department and a master's degree from another in a field related to their career goals will provide a very solid and ideal background in the profession.

More than a quarter of our graduates (including those abroad) continue their careers with postgraduate education (in education, finance, mathematics, etc.), while an equal number directly apply their knowledge in the education sector. Additionally, more than a third work in the private sector (information technology, services, metal, textiles, etc.) or abroad.

The competence of the Yeditepe University Mathematics (English) Bachelor's Degree was included in the Turkish Qualifications Framework on July 18, 2023.

Our undergraduate program has the FEDEK accreditation valid from 2019 to 2024. For more detailed information about this accreditation, you can visit our FEDEK Accreditation page.

About Us

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING STUDIES

The growing complexity of international communication, involving written, spoken and technology mediated communication increasingly requires combined competencies. Recognizing this need, our program at Yeditepe University aims to provide our students with the education, skills and competence that they need to perform both tasks professionally and to produce graduates equipped with all the required knowledge in the area of translation and interpreting. Turkey’s intense international relations in our era urges governmental and private institutions to employ qualified and experienced translators. There has been an increasing need for translators in the media, commercial companies, law offices and conference interpreters in ever increasing conferences.
