APPLICATION FOR GRADUATE PROGRAMS
The programs are open to students from mathematics, science and engineering departments. Students holding a B.S. degree from a department other than mathematics are required to complete a preparotory semester in mathematics undergraduate program.
Students from other Instituitions may also apply after completing one semester succesfully in their Instituitions.
Applications are accepted by The Institute of Graduate Studies in Science and Engineering twice a year. For registration candidates should have
- Application form (available from the Institute)
- Copy of B.S. diploma
- Two reference letters
- Qualification record for English (an examination to be anounced by Yeditepe University during registration)
- ALES record (min of 60 for MS and min of 70 for PhD)
cientific and language qualifications of the candidate will be the subjects of an interview with the graduate comitee of the department. Need for a preparotory semester for mathematics background will be decided. Degrees, reference letters and student’s own explanations of his/her goals will be essential.
Mathematics Department offers three graduate programs:
- MASTER OF SCIENCE WITHOUT THESIS
- MASTER OF SCIENCE WITH THESIS
- PhD DEGREE IN MATHEMATICS
Basic research areas of the department are differential equations, dynamical systems, differential geometry, topologically massive gauge theories and gravitation, functional analysis, approximation theory, completely integrable systems, geometric mechanics, combinatorial group theory, model theory, Lie algebras, algebraic number theory, automorphic forms and representation theory, electromagnetic theory, integral transforms, inverse scattering, mixed boundary value problems, bayesian statistics, reliability, statistical computer simulations, mathematical modelling.
PhD program is free of charge, in exchange of working as teaching assistant for 4 to 8 hours per week.
Undergraduate ‘top of the class’ recieves full bursary.
Those who have a scholarship from TUBITAK receive tuition waiver in exchange of working as teaching assistant for 4 to 8 hours per week.
Those who work as research assistants in funded projects from TÜBİTAK, SANTEZ, DPT or similar research councils receive tuition waiver in exchange of working as teaching assistant for 4 to 8 hours per week.
The Mathematics Department adopted the policy of hiring research assistants among graduate students. Students completing the M.S. program may apply to Ph. D. Program of the department. Qualified students with B.S. degree may directly apply to Ph.D. program.
