When was Yeditepe University History Department founded?
Yeditepe University History Department started to offer undergraduate education in the 1996-1997 Academic Year and started to offer graduate education in the 2003-2004 Academic Year. At the end of the four-year undergraduate programme, our students gain knowledge of various periods and cultures in history and gain research methods skills. Our department was accredited for the first time in 2015 by the Commission for Evaluation and Accreditation of Curricula of the Faculties of Science, Literature, Science-Literature, Language and History-Geography "FEDEK" and has been accredited once again in 2023.

History is a discipline that analyzes the events of the past within the framework of place, time, cause and effect. Department of History is an academic field where history is taught in 4-year undergraduate programmes of universities. Departments of History can be under the Faculties of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Letters, Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Language, History and Geography, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or Faculty of Humanities. The Department of History at Yeditepe University belongs to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

How is History taught at Yeditepe University?
The Department of History at Yeditepe University has set a goal for itself to be based on contemporary principles on the scale of human history. The first of these is to provide an international level in history education. In addition, it aims to present the data obtained by conducting research on the neglected subjects of Turkish History to the service of both our country and the world. The Department of History at Yeditepe University tries to teach its students how the future should be shaped by looking at what happened in the past. Students of the Department of History are not only confronted with theoretical knowledge of history in the courses they take: With field trips to historical sites, historical knowledge is reinforced on-site. History can only develop by reading to a great extent. In addition, visual material is presented to students in all courses and visual environments are prepared. The fact that the courses are taught in the light of visual documents increases retention. In addition, Department of History students have the opportunity to meet people who have an important place in the science of history who come to our university as guest speakers from Turkey and abroad and to benefit from their knowledge.
When the history department ranking list of universities in Turkey is examined, it is seen that Yeditepe University has a considerable place in this sense. The Department of History at Yeditepe University offers very important knowledge to its students and prepares them for their future studies. It prepares the ground for them to produce science as a well-trained and well-equipped individual.
As a result of the four-year undergraduate programme, our students gain knowledge of various periods and cultures in history and acquire research methods skills. Our students have the opportunity to study in modern equipped classrooms with no more than 10-15 students. They have the opportunity to fully benefit from this education by meeting face-to-face with the lecturers at least twice a week during the specified meetings. Students can also benefit from different disciplines by taking elective courses from other fields in addition to the related courses according to the fields they want to specialise in. Furthermore, “The History Society,” founded by the students of the Department of History, provides an environment of discussion and reflection for students interested in history. The History Society is a student club where students organise various activities such as cultural trips, meetings and film screenings.
What are the Erasmus, Double Major and Minor opportunities of Yeditepe University History Department?
Erasmus: Yeditepe University Department of History implements student exchange programme activities perfectly with the agreements made with distinguished universities of Europe. In this context, there are students coming from abroad as well as department students sent abroad. Students who meet the necessary prerequisites are evaluated upon their application and if deemed appropriate by the board, they receive education in contracted universities for one or two semesters. Efforts are underway to increase departmental activities for Erasmus.
