As a result of the four-year undergraduate programme, our students gain knowledge of various periods and cultures in history and gain skills in research methods. Students have the opportunity to study in modern, well-equipped classrooms with no more than 10-15 students. They have the opportunity to fully benefit from this education by meeting face to face with the lecturers at least twice a week on the specified meeting dates. In addition, within the scope of the History Seminars organised every semester, they have the opportunity to meet and listen to the guest researchers from Turkey and abroad.
Students can benefit from different disciplines by taking elective courses from other fields in addition to the courses related to the fields they will specialise in. Successful students also have the opportunity to pursue a minor or double major in various fields during their education period.
History is a science that analyses the events of the past within the framework of place, time and cause and effect. The science of history should be objective and accepted by everyone. History Department is the field of university where history science is taught in 4-year undergraduate programmes of universities. History Departments can operate under the Faculties of Science and Literature, Faculty of Humanities and Literature, Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Language and History and Geography, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or Faculty of Humanities. History Departments, as the name suggests, mainly consist of history courses and include compulsory and elective courses in this context. The main purpose of this department is to enable students to evaluate the perspective of history in an objective dimension. Studying in the history department is an extremely enjoyable education and training process. Students who prefer the Department of History are qualified students who are curious about history and like to do research and learn something in this field. In this context, students not only enjoy the lessons they take, but also enter the lessons by loving the department. High school students who intend to choose the Department of History should keep their verbal courses strong in this period and prefer verbal and equal weight fields in university exams.
The History Society, which operates within the Department of History, provides an environment of discussion and reflection for students interested in history. The History Society is a student community where students organise various activities such as cultural trips, meetings and film screenings.
Graduates of the Department of History can work in a wide range of different sectors as individuals who have the broadest background in the field of human sciences, equipped with various languages, researchers and inquisitive individuals.

Studying History at Yeditepe University
All people living in the world are somehow related to history. History is the future of humanity. Humanity tries to design a future by looking at what happened in the past. Yeditepe University, Department of History has set a goal for itself on the scale of human history based on contemporary principles. The first of these is to realise history teaching at an international level. In addition, it aims to present the data obtained by conducting research on the neglected subjects of Turkish History to the service of both our country and the world. Yeditepe University Department of History aims to teach its students how the future should be shaped by looking at what happened in the past. Students of the Department of History are not only confronted with dry history knowledge in the courses they take. With field trips to historical sites, history knowledge is reinforced on site, and historical artefacts are seen and equipped in this context. Although the courses are mainly theoretical, Ottoman Turkish and other languages are also offered to the students as elective sources. History knowledge develops only by reading. In addition, visual material is presented to students in all courses and visual environments are prepared. The fact that the lessons are taught in the light of visual documents increases retention. In addition, Yeditepe University Department of History students have the opportunity to meet with people who have an important place in the science of history who come to our university as guest speakers from Turkey and abroad and to benefit from their knowledge.
When the ranking list of history departments of universities in Turkey is analysed, it is seen that Yeditepe University has a considerable place in this sense. Yeditepe University Department of History students have found jobs in very good fields and have served in effective positions. What does a History Graduate do?
Although there is a perception in the society that graduates of the Department of History have limited job opportunities under the conditions of our country, this is not the case at all. The job opportunities of the graduates of this department are mostly related to their career goals and success. Graduates of the Department of History can find a job in the following fields.
- After undergraduate education, they can continue their academic career with a master's and PhD degree and work as academics at universities.
- There are counsellor guide positions in museums. They can work as a guide by taking part in these positions.
- They can take pedagogic formation education by taking advantage of the formation programme of universities and work as history teachers in the public and private sectors.
- They can serve as archaeologists.
- They can work as a tourist guide on tourist trips.
- They can become civil servants. (In fact, with the amendment made in the law, graduates of the history department can take the district governorship exam and become district governors)
- They can work in military institutions.

Student Exchange Programmes
Yeditepe University Department of History implements student exchange programme activities perfectly in accordance with the agreements made with the distinguished universities of Europe. In this context, there are students coming from abroad as well as department students sent abroad. Students who meet the necessary prerequisites are evaluated upon their application and if deemed appropriate by the board, they receive education in contracted universities for one or two semesters. Within the scope of Erasmus, efforts are underway to increase the activities of the department, and it is thought that studies in this direction will be more comprehensive in the coming years.
Bologna Process
Yeditepe University, Bologna Coordination Commission carries out its activities within the framework of national and international qualifications. In this direction, as a result of the studies that have been going on at our university since 2006, in 2012, the qualifications of all existing programmes were determined by taking into account the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYÇ) and professional and current standards, and by associating them with the learning outcomes of the courses, the teaching has become more planned and qualified. In accordance with the principles of scientificity, cooperation and transparency in education, lesson plans for all programmes have been prepared and published on the faculty web pages. Similar studies on international standards continue within the framework of the scientific, dynamic and innovative understanding of our university.
