About The Department

It is aimed that the graduates of the program to speak Russian at an advanced level and to learn Russian literature and culture well. After one year of preparatory education, students gain the ability to conduct research and analysis at national and international level during the four-year undergraduate education; It is aimed to enrich their knowledge and equipment in many different disciplines and intercultural fields. Our newly established department has started to work on exchange and cooperation agreements with high ranked universities of Russia. Thus, our students will have the chance to complete one semester of their undergraduate studies in Russia.

What is the Department of Russian Language and Literature?

Russian Language and Literature Department; Aiming to educate students who analyze the development of the Russian language, culture, and literature from the past to the present, stand out with their educator and researcher identities, and who can use the acquired knowledge in practice.

Russian Language and Literature Department, which provides education within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, includes a 4-year undergraduate education and some departments have a 1-year preparatory period. The undergraduate program, which can be preferred by students studying in the language department of high schools, enables students to gain both theoretical and applied knowledge and skills. In particular, students who have the ability to conduct scientific research are proficient in general linguistic theories, Russian philology, and skilled product analysis and are open to this development.

The undergraduate program maintains to provide advanced speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills, especially under their guidance. A permanent educational content is being prepared to learn Russian literature, Russian history, and Russian culture fully and accurately in these works. Customers who are entitled to receive a diploma from the Department of Russian Language and Literature and the title of philologist after their undergraduate education can continue their careers in many fields.

Studying Russian Language and Literature at Yeditepe University

Russian Language and Literature Department of our University; It aims to train individuals who are well-versed in grammar but can think critically, are culturally equipped, have ethical concerns, and enable their graduates to acquire the competence and knowledge that enables them to work as both educators and researchers in their fields. At the end of the 4-year undergraduate education shaped in line with this purpose, students can speak Russian as their mother tongue and learn Russian culture and literature.

Enabling students to develop their national and international researcher identities is also a part of the undergraduate program. The education of the Department of Russian Language and Literature provides the acquisition of this research and education competence. In this sense, it is aimed that the graduates of the department increase their knowledge and competencies in different international fields.

Students who blend the Russian philology education acquired during the undergraduate program with world literature can also combine this education with translation. Students can improve their Russian language acquisition with undergraduate education, thanks to the written and oral translation modules that they can use in their professional business life, and that will enable them to stand out.

What do graduates of the Department of Russian Language and Literature do? Where do they work?

After receiving the title of philologist, graduates of the Russian Language and Literature Department can find a job in a wide range of fields and can build their careers according to their field of interest. One of these fields is academia. Graduates who fulfill the conditions determined after the undergraduate program become academician by enrolling in master's and doctoral programs and can conduct academic studies on Russian Language and Literature.

However, there are job opportunities in both public institutions and the private sector. Foreign trade firms can find the opportunity to work in law offices, the tourism industry, the construction industry, the gas industry, government institutions and embassies, transportation, customs, media institutions, and translation and interpreting offices, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. In these different fields, he can find the opportunity to pursue a career with titles such as academician, translator, translator and interpreter, and teaching. Graduates who want to work as teachers in both public institutions and private courses and courses are required to take pedagogical formation during their undergraduate programs.

Student Exchange Programs

Among the student exchange programs carried out by Yeditepe University with world universities, Yeditepe University also has bilateral agreements with universities in Russia and Spain for the Russian Language and Literature Department. Students of the Russian Language and Literature Department can receive their education at the host university and continue their education abroad during the specified periods of their undergraduate programs.

Bologna Process

Yeditepe University has been carrying on the studies of Bologna Coordination Commission in the framework of national and international competence. 

Accordingly, as a result of the studies that have been conducted in our university since 2006, in 2012, the efficacy of all existing programs was determined in consideration of occupational and current standards provided by NQF-HETR. The correspondence between these standards and the learning outcomes of the courses led to a more planned and quality education.

Course schedules for all programs were prepared in pursuance of being scientific, in collaboration and transparent in education, and published on websites of the faculties. 

Similar studies with regard to international standards are being carried on within the framework of scientific, dynamic and reformist notion of our university.
