Department of English Language and Literature at Yeditepe University conducts extensive research both nationally and internationally. We admit successful students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and our alumni make significant contributions to the arts and humanities across the world. Our department's goal is to equip students with the skills and knowledge to develop inter-cultural and interdisciplinary connections that foster a nuanced understanding of diversity, resulting in an open-minded perspective. The undergraduate programme provides an analysis of diverse genres in English literature, critical theory, comparative literature and American literature. In addition, the department offers students a comparative literature option to provide a broad perspective within the context of contemporary cultural and literary studies. Students have the opportunity to gain international experience through participation in Socrates/Erasmus projects and courses at various universities in Europe and the United States. Students with approved applications and the appropriate GPA have the opportunity to obtain a Double Major degree through various protocols with other departments.

Yeditepe University, English Language and Literature (English) Undergraduate Diploma qualification was included in the Turkish Qualifications Framework on December 6, 2023.

Studying English Language and Literature at Yeditepe University

Students who reach the target determined in the ranking and scores of the Department of English Language and Literature can study at our university. The undergraduate programme of the Department of English Language and Literature aims to enable students to establish interdisciplinary and intercultural connections, to look at individuals and phenomena objectively through this connection, and to transfer the knowledge they have acquired during the education process to practical life. In this sense, it is a department that aims to contribute to science and humanity.
Department of English Language and Literature provides education in the fields of comparative literature and textual analysis as well as studying the periods of English literature from the past to the present. In particular, the comparative literature option within the education system of our department enables students to gain a different perspective in the context of both English literature and cultural studies. During the undergraduate programme, students can double major and minor in many different disciplines. Students who successfully complete their undergraduate education have the opportunity to pursue a career at every stage of education and training.

What does a graduate of English Language and Literature do? Where Do They Work?

Graduates of the Department of English Language and Literature can pursue a career in different fields according to their area of interest after their studies. Graduates who want to engage in academic studies and lifelong learning can achieve this desire through master's and doctoral programmes and become academics. Graduates who want to teach English in both public schools and private courses are required to take pedagogical formation.
Graduates can work as translators, guides, editors, managers, copywriters and literary critics in various fields such as ministries, translation and interpreting offices, tourism agencies, news agencies, press and broadcasting organisations, advertising companies and foreign trade sector.

The mission of our department consists of the ability of our students to make connections between disciplines and cultures during their education, to look at people, facts and events as much as possible without prejudice, to know the value of the goals they set and to gain the opportunity to use this knowledge in their actions.

ERASMUS+ PROGRAMME 
The Erasmus+ programme is a European Union programme to encourage higher education institutions to cooperate with each other. It provides financial support for higher education institutions to produce and implement joint projects with each other and to carry out short-term student and staff exchanges.  
In addition, it also encourages increased relations and cooperation between higher education institutions and the working environment in order to develop the higher education system in accordance with the needs of the business world and to increase the employability of university graduates in the business world.

Bologna Process

Yeditepe University, Bologna Coordination Commission carries out its activities within the framework of national and international qualifications.
In this direction, as a result of the studies that have been going on at our university since 2006, in 2012, the qualifications of all existing programmes were determined by taking into account the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework (TYYÇ) and professional and current standards, and by associating them with the learning outcomes of the courses, the teaching has become more planned and qualified.
In accordance with the principles of scientificity, cooperation and transparency in education, lesson plans for all programmes have been prepared and published on the faculty web pages.
Similar studies on international standards continue within the framework of the scientific, dynamic and innovative understanding of our university.
