Patrick Lewis was our guest in our Social Sciences Colloquium class on Monday, April 29th. The topic of this week was the article "Signs of Solidarity and Difference: Illegal Tea, Sincerity, and the National Public in Turkey" written by Patrick Lewis, who completed his PhD in Anthropology at the University of Chicago in 2020 and is in Istanbul this year as a Fullbright Postdoctoral Researcher. While preparing for us in the course, we discuss the images and anthropological values of Turkish culture and daily life in a framework by comparing and exemplifying them during the presentation.

With the answers we gave to our questions and the "Illegal Tea" articles, we have seen the practice and habit of tea in our daily lives and the politics behind it. Tea does not only occur as a liquid. It also exists with a culture, politics and economic complexity. He gained a better understanding of how Turkish society's taste, identity and power changes re-emerge patterns of national difference. Thank you to Patrick Lewis for his time and effort.
