Program Information

The vision of Yeditepe University Turkish Language and Literature Department is to become a department where quality research recognized on a national and international level is produced and graduates and postgraduates who have the potential to be successful in various national and international academic and research institutions are educated and can contribute to science and humanity.

The Turkish Language and Literature Department at Yeditepe University was the first to begin formal educational activities in the academic year of 1996-1997 among the other Foundation Universities established in Turkey. The Department studies Turkish with its historical past and at the same time re-interprets and evaluates the language under the light of contemporary linguistic methods through courses on language and linguistics. Literature courses also offer a similar sense of unity. In line with the traditional approach, the main fields of "Old Turkish Literature", "New Turkish Literature" and "Folk Literature" are handled separately on one hand, and on the other it is emphasized that literature is in fact a continuous process from the past to today. It is among the primary goals of the department to provide students with new theories and disciplines that will enable them to look at literature within contemporary aspects accompanied by the main fields.
